Ah, here’s a filler post while I get my things straightened out in the real life. School has never been that busy for me for a long time since graduating from junior college – suddenly I find myself in the middle of the onslaught of multiple deadlines piling up in the weeks ahead. I’m going under!
Anyway, as what the title of the post tells you, here is a 180 degree panorama I have stitched out of a handful of photos taken at the Floating Platform on Marina Bay, Singapore, during one of the outing two weeks ago. The one you see here is the resized version – click on it to reveal the larger panorama in the modified lightbox. Yea, I spent a great deal of time a few nights back hacking and modding the Lightbox 2 plugin to make it panorama-friendly, heh.
Anyway, I recevied a lovely postcard from Trina a few days ago! I was so thrilled because this is the first time I’m getting a letter mailed to me from overseas *bounces around* I promise I will give it a good write-up when I’m done with my deadlines :) and I’m very amazed that after travelling half the globe and probably through many hands, storage boxes and containers, nothing was smeared on the postcard and it’s still looking great!

Hi Teddy!! How are you?? How have you been?? It’s been a while, but I’m backie!! Your Panoramic stitch is BEAUTIFUL. Might I say the color is beautiful and it stands out greatly :) I never cease to be amazed by your photos!
Anyways, was wondering if you can update or re-add my link? I used to be Destiny at everdestiny.com :)
Can I also re-add you?
Hey, I’ve been doing very well, thanks! Life is getting a little busier though – I’ve got a few deadlines to meet which will arrive in a week’s time, and exams are just 3 weeks away. But I’m coping well :) what about you? I haven’t heard from you in a little while – hope you’re doing all good!
Ah, sure thing. I will get it done in a jiffy! So I shall link you under your new name Smartee?
Sure, I’d be honoured if you re-add me :) thank you so much! Have a great week ahead!
OMG. That panaroma is amazing!!! I wonder how many photos you have to used to stitch that up???
Oh, it’s stitched from 11 separate photos, oriented vertically to provide the greatest vertical perspective. Thanks for the compliments!
How are you doing? Haven’t heard from you for a little while heheh.
Excellent panorama, Teddy! I have such a difficult taking those. But then again.. I’ve tried a few times without a tripod — clearly not that smart of an idea! hehe I must go out and try to make my own sometime. How many photos did it take to create this one, btw!?
Oh and I’m just soo happy that my postcard made it to you safe & sound. :) I will definitely be sending others in the near future, you can count on that.
Ah, thank you! Actually, you don’t have to do it without a tripod. That panorama I stitched was made up of photos taken using free hand :) As long as you keep your camera more or less level and you make sure that there’s sufficient overlapping regions in each photo (it’s better to be safe than sorry, I have around 25% overlap in each photo). Rich overlapping gives the software ample clues on where to stitch the photos together – so the more the merrier, heheh!
I took 11 vertically-oriented photos (i.e. portraits) to reduce horizontal distortion caused by the camera lens, as well as to expand the panorama vertically.
Ah, I’m cooking a post about your postcard! Thank you again! :)
Wow, just… wow! Awesome panorama from a great location! Surely that pitch should feature in a Nike football ad?
Actually I prefer landscape panoramas than urban ones. For some reason I don’t find beauty in it, but this is an exception. I’d say it’s the array of colourful seats that got my attention. Oh, and what you see in the background on the left is the upcoming Integrated Resort. Well, Singapore government has a penchant of giving nice-sounding names to bad stuff – actually it’s just a big fat casino in the downtown district.
Nike football ad. That sounds really epic!
p/s: Hope you had fun attending the EE conference! I can’t wait for EE2.0 to be released, and see how other popular EE users take it up and give it praises :) you use EE too?
That panorama makes me miss living in Singapore. How an earth did you get all the way up the bleachers? I had no idea that you can go into the premises to take photos! Had I known, I would have done so before I moved away!
Ah, you don’t have to! I bet there are also a lot of things to discover and appreciate over at your place :) I’ve always been wanting to travel to Indonesia, sans the touristy places.
Oh, the spectator’s stand is actually open to public most of the time, although it was heavily fenced off during the F1 Night race as well as during the National Day Parade (both the rehearsals and the real thing). When we arrived there that very afternoon, many of the metal barriers were still there and are yet to be moved to a storage area. And the tarmac is so fresh – I think that’s because they got it repaved for the F1 Night Race, heheh.
There were quite a handful of people lazing around the stand. It’s kind of creepy though because they kept staring at our direction. Thank goodness I went with a friend, who’s rather big sized haha. That’d scare them away.
So, how’s things over there? I hear from Ivy that you’re doing well with your new job. Congratulations and all the best!
