teddy-risationâ„¢ officially turned five on the 1st of July, 2009. Oh, and a big happy belated Canada Day to those who celebrated it – which happened to fall on the same day – and early wishes to Americans for celebrating Independence Day on the 4th of July. It surely is one happening week!

teddy-risationâ„¢ turns five!
That’s a simple and not-so-elegant typographic poster I’ve designed for the 5th anniversary. Well, to think of it, this blog has been through all the thick and thin of times for the past half-decade. I morphed from a adamant, rowdy, inconsiderate teenager to a person who has a better idea of what to do in life in the future. Experiences over the past 5 years sculpted the me today – reflected in a gradual change in my blogging style and entries. I used to not care about what others say about me back then. I didn’t care if my words hurt people. Now, I’ve learned to be more compassionate and considerate, and more importantly, learn to shut up when it’s the right time :)
Here’s a recap of what I’ve achieved over the past year, in chronological order:
- Embraced Firefox 3.0. That’s so 2008. Now go grab Firefox 3.5, folks!
- Wrote an article on Photographer’s Rights. Know your rights a photographer is entitled to.
- Embracing my new life in NTU. See Loving Every Single Bit of It and Can I stay for awhile?
- Embarked on mini morning photoshooting trip on campus, and sent Huilin off to Warwick, London :(
- Turned 19, and my uni mates threw me a fantastic surprise party. Not to forget, I lost my phone on my birthday eve.
- Got a new phone. Why? See #5.
- Obamania! Yes we can.
- An owl invaded my room, pooped over the floor and left me in a state of shock. Ah, the joys of living next to a forest.
- Released a new blog layout, teddY-risatioNâ„¢ Eta.
- Death of Oscar Grant. Police brutality on the rise?
- My first typographic poster – greeNTU – is up on the campus walls! *dances around*
- Weird dream, period.
- I ventured into infrared photography. I’m currently using a Hoya R72 filter, alongside with my Sony Alpha kit lens.
- The widely, wildly popular and notorious NTU stabbing incident – and yes, I study there.
- Susan Boyle dreamed a dream… and that shot her to stardom!
- Went on a photoshooting trip in Kuala Lumpur with my long-lost primary schoolmate, Jeremy.
- Yay, revamped my blog layout. Here comes teddy-risationâ„¢ Theta!
- On vacation, headed to Genting Highlands and then the Perhentian Islands (post not ready yet, my bad!)
- RIP Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon and Billy Mays.
Sorry that I don’t have much gimmicks for you guys! Okay *inhales deeply* here’s one of the few moments I’m going to scare little kids with my face again. Here’s a photo of my cousin and I, taken at a local park a few days back. I’m currently enjoying the homestaying experience with my uncle’s family, which will – sadly – come to an end this weekend :/
Have a great weekend! Pssst, yes, I know I know I know I don’t look like a 19-year-old. I prefer to be described as being one that’s “looking youth” :)
The Fonty Friday feature has been canceled this week due to my busy schedule. Everything will be back to normal by next week!

happy fifth, here’s to 50 more!
cool picture, you have your face obstructed on twitter :P
Woohoo! *throws confetti* Congratulations, Teddy. :) That’s a wonderful achievement. Five years.. and you’re still loving it! It’s amazing looking back on older blog entries and seeing how much you have grown as an individual as well as an artist. I spent an hour or so here recently looking through my old blogs & entries — they were quite embarrassing! lol, I unfortunately only have a small handful of saved entries, and even though they are horribly written and mostly rants.. It’s still nice to have. :)
Yay, five years! I do hope you continue on this journey of yours. Your blog is definitely one of my favorites. It’s little ico is up there on my firefox tab. :)
Oh, btw. That poster you made for greenNTU is amazing! I absolutely love it. I would love to make a poster someday. How cool. :D
Thank you, Trina! Actually, my old posts are quite embarrassing too! I was actually contemplating whether to remove them or not when I migrated to WP upon my blog’s first birthday. I made the right decision to keep them – the old writings are all priceless, aren’t they?
I will! I made myself promise that this will be my first and last blog – if I ever had the guts to put it all behind me, I must have the guts not to miss it and cry after the loss.
Oh, the poster! Initially I did it just for fun but then I figured it out that I might as well submit it for approval – and it got approved! I was so elated when I was told that it will be printed and then pasted across my university campus.
congrats Teddy…long live Teddy-risation !!!! by the way, you have a typo in the graphic…. :)
Congrats Teddy!!
Congrats! 5 years is a long time, and my site is nearly there too! Give me a year and a half :P
You don’t look scary at all, ya’know. I look scarier than you =P Especially when I’m in no mood to be entertained XD
It’s okay to look younger than everyone else :D Though I’m rather a hypocrite when I say this because I keep complaining how the boys at school in my year still look (and act) like middle-schoolers when they’re already in college -_-” Ah well XP
Haha! Three and a half years blogging… it’s not as easy tasks too! Sometimes I do question myself why the hell am I still sticking with blogging – but to think that I have a bunch of amazing friends like you, I can’t bear to leave it behind.
No, you don’t! I look scarier. My braces can shear meat off my enemies. Muahahaha.
I do look young. Very young, actually. People think I look like a 15-year-old. Oooof!
happy 5th anniversary…keep up the great posting alright ;)
Wow, congratulations on 5 years! :D
Happy 5th Anniversary! Wow, blogging for 5 years. You can be considered as a ‘veteran’ blogger. Dude, its good to look younger than your age lah. I’m 18 and people think that I’m 21 =_=”
@Jamaipanese: Thank you! I’ve made a promise that this will be my first and last blog – I will never close it down :)
@life4hire: Thanks! Ah, I discovered it too! I’ll rectify it ASAP, thanks for the heads up!
@Katy: Thank you, Katy! Happy belated Canada’s Day by the way – my cousin’s friend totally forgot about the big day and went to the Canadian embassy to get her visa done, only to realized that it was closed for the day, lol.
@med: I will, no worries! I realized my updates are getting increasingly sporadic… I’d attribute part of that to Twitter, heh.
@Mimi: That’s really nice of you, thanks!
@Stanley: Nah, not veteran at all! I’ve seen those 10-year-old blogs, whose owners imported entries from the older static websites to new blogging platforms :) It’s a good thing to look mature – the bright side of it is that you will rarely need to flash your ID when purchasing alcoholic drinks or movie tickets. Sometimes I still get asked to do it, bleagh.
OMG, I love YOUR layout! Mine isn’t really, y’know, professional at all… because its not mine. I’ve gotta admit you inspire me as well… I just uploaded a previous layout of mine. I wish I could code as good as you… maybe I will later, who knows? Hm, being on yours and Scott’s site makes me want to go down the professional path, haha.
And, I just realized that I was so stunned by your site that I didn’t even leave a comment on your blog, ha. How rude, I know. So, for that, congratulations on five years! When I read ‘decade’, I was like wait, 100 years, how? Seriously.
Thanks for the comment on my college issues. Yes, I know… its pretty much cool. Kids in the high school I attend are pretty much obnoxious at times. In the college, its so… mature and all.
Thank you so much for the comment, Aaron! Who say your’s isn’t professional? I wished that such distinctions do not exist – it’s either a good design or a bad one, and of course, yours is looking great! I’m digging that grey grundgy texture you’re using as the background, heh.
My college experience was a lot better than my high school experience – people dealt with things from a more matured perspective. Of course, being in university now reveals a different world again :)
I hope you’ll never stop blogging! it sounds so long when it’s worded as half a decade. ;)
I like your phone! (I just read all about it) I got an LG KP500 (Cookie) earlier this year, and I’m happy with it, but I kept dropping it so I had to get a cover for it, which defeated (a little) one of my primary reasons for choosing it– it’s very thin and I can slip it anywhere I want.
And you sure have a thing with typography– it’s great!
Thank you Grace for the kind comments! Yea, I chose to say ‘half a decade’ instead of 5 years. I hope I won’t run out of what to blog though – looks like the emergence of social media sites like Twitter only usurped my very bit of creativity left.
Wow, that phone you’ve got is pretty awesome too! It makes me regret that I’ve bought mine so early. I should’ve waited it out for the better models to come. I make a classic case study of buyer’s regret.
Have a great weekend!
happy 5th teddy ted. mine coming soon in august. and im changing my blog layout soon. hopefully can make it in time. :)
Congrats, Teddy! Sorry I haven’t been commenting on your posts but make no mistake, I’m still loyally following every single one of your always well-worded and pictured posts. =)
Five internet-years is a long time, you’ve come a long way. I never knew you actually started blogging on Blogger!
It’s amazing when you’ve been blogging this long and when you look back at your posts over the years you get to look back on your life on chronological order, how your writing changes, etc. Very interesting stuff.
Happy blog anniversary teddy! Here’s to another five more years! =D
