Thank you Bob! I equally elated that Obama won the presidential election because I believe he is the best choice for the US. His win signifies a drastic change in US over the past century - from a slavery, and racially driven economy to a free economy and government. Isn't that what many other countries are trying to achieve but are still trying?

@med
Thanks! I'm equally elated when Obama won... I've been hoping that he will win, from all the promises he've made to change the US for the better. Let's wait and see.

@jason
Same here. I am never into politics before. In fact, it feels weird that I'm actually more interested in US politics than Malaysia's. But that isn't surprising afterall, heheh. But yea, when I heard his speech, my eyes went wet - this is what America and Americans have been hoping for, for such a long time! 100 years ago when slavery was lifted and the blacks were liberated, this is what we have today.

@NoktahHitam
Thanks! He deserves to be depicted in good light ;) heheh. He had a clean history in politics, and he's one of the best what the election can hope for.

@abdusfauzi
Don't worry, you're not alone! Sometimes I get really lost too, but there's always time for you to pick yourself up. I don't participate in political analysis and debates... I find politics something very dirty and cunning.

Same here! But that changed for me for this US election. For other political issues, I couldn't be bothered much too! No wonder many countries are worrying nowadays due to youths' political apathy - the younger generations are no longer interested in politics as compared to their fore fathers.

Let's hope that Obama will bring change!

Same here. Frankly speaking, I wasn't really interested in US politics until the start of the '08 election campaign. We have potential presidential candidates that are hallmarks of changes American has gone through - Hillary Clinton, the first female president, Barack Obama, the first African-American president, McCain, the oldest presidential candidate so far, Sarah Palin, the youngest female vice president. No matter who wins, it will be a historical moment not only for the US, but for the world.

I did read some really infuriating comment from the white supremacists and the anti-Obama people - ranging from It's called WHITE house for a reason. to He definitely have ties with the terrorists. (just because his last name was just an alphabet difference away from Osama's). It's just rediculous that up to this era, people are still bitter against those who are of different colour from them or are blatantly unaware of the distinction between fact, and stupidity.

Speaking of the local, Malaysian political scene, I was watching this foreign (most probably British) documentary about Malaysian politics so far and I must say that it is one of the best. Unlike the state-controlled mainstream media, it dug deep into the fundamental flaws behind the arrests of certain people that are deemed threatening to the foothold of the current government. The part where they interviewed Najib Tun Razak, the current Second Prime Minister of Malaysia, made me laugh - he claimed that he had not known the murdered Mongolian model before. That's the biggest joke ever.

Race-based politics are absent in US, but there are still race-based policing around. The police forces are chiefly made up of white people and there is a documented higher usage of Tasers on blacks than on whites, and that on many occasions, the usage of Tasers are not warranted. That's one of the change I'm looking for too.

For Malaysia, I don't see any hope in the change in the government, and ruling party or the jurisdiction for the better in the near future, given that the government is desperately silencing and drowning people's voice with unruly confinement and unjustified arrests. In Malaysia, the aftertaste of politics tastes as bad as sewage water. I hope someone will be able to make a change.

The one thing that made me excited about the 2008 US Presidentials was how open the people of America are to change. That they've supported a black to run for president. That they've actually put a black man into the Oval Office.

In our country, what the Americans did could be likened to electing a Chinese or Indian Prime Minister. And you and I both know it would be eons even for that to be taken into consideration in our beloved country.

The Americans have proudly shown the world that race-based politics is virtually non-existant in their country.

It's time we learn something and stop fooling ourselves for being a 'harmonious, multiracial country'.
