Hi everyone! This post is overdue by 5 days *bangs head against wall* but at least I managed to get it up now :) ah wells in case you don’t know, teddY-risatioNâ„¢ was born on the 1st of July 2004. And for the 1st of July 2007, it is happy celebrating it’s third birthday!!! Woots!
Okay before I go on bragging about the my endeavour in the blogosphere for the past 3 years, I would like to extend my gratefulness to everyone who reads this blog! A big thank you to my regular readers and commentors (you know who you are :razz: haha!), as well as other random visitors who happen to drop by through search engines or blog hopping. Thanks to my classmates for leaving comments to show support, as well as other classmates who read this blog, especially Ivan, Eunice, Chris, Ck, Sophia, Toon and etc (just to name a few, so if your name doesn’t appear here tell me) oh and not to forget my dearest mom and dad (although this sounds really corny but hey they really played a big part in my blogging journey). My parents are quite supportive of me blogging, as long as I don’t reveal too much personal information and stuff like that in my blog. My dad is the proud sponsor of the hosting plan that keeps this blog alive, so a big kudo to him! Since they’re okay with me blogging, I do not really need to keep many of my posts hidden or sometimes even resort to password protecting the entire blog (like what some of my friends did to avoid the prying eyes of their parents…). I don’t need to hide behind the mask of anonymousity – I can proudly call myself by my true name here (just that I don’t want to since teddY sounds like a nicer name). All these people helped this blog to grow to what is it you see today.

This blog started off being hosted by Google blogger. I was so unfamiliar with the Internet at that time! Can you imagine that 3 years back I don’t really surf the Internet? I didn’t know what the hell MSN Messenger was and I even have problems checking my emails. Gee, how embarrassing details. I asked my friend to help me setup my blog. I decided to use the nickname “teddY” because it is very similar to my real name Terry. The capital letter Y was used instead of the conventional “Teddy” because I wanted to be a little unqiue over other bloggers named Teddy too. So this partly explains how this blog is named “teddY-risatioNâ„¢”. The suffix “-risatioN” is used because I can’t find another better suffix. It is generated completely out of random, so I don’t really have a satisfactory explanation for the suffix :) haha!
A few weeks before the first birthday of the blog I’ve decided to move my blog to a private domain. Since then this blog is running on WordPress – it gave me way more flexibility in blogging and allows me to host my own images without worrying about the down time of other image-hosting servers. Special thanks to dad for giving me the green light as well as being the proud behind-the-scene sponsor of the private hosting of this blog :razz: I love you dad!
At the end of 2005 I’ve finally got my own camera. I’m still using it now – Pentax Optio S55. Although it punches only a megre 5 megapixel considered by current industry standards, it is still my favourite because I’ve been using it for almost 2 years! Almost all the photos on this blog are taken by this camera – the rest are taken with the old broken lousy DV camera I’ve bought before getting my hands on this camera. Can you imagine how lousy the DV camera was – no autofocus! So everytime when I take a photo I’ll have to adjust the lenses manually. And the photos taken coughs up a lot of noise (aka those random red, blue, green pixels in a photo, especially when the photos are taken under low light conditions).
Special thanks to my friend for introducing me Adobe Photoshop as well as kind shopowners who allow me to browse through their photoshop guidebooks, I’ve managed to take loads of really nice photos! So here they are – a portion of my personal favourites. I tried to squeeze in all of my favourites but file size constraints prevents me to do so. Here they are :)
As I gain experience over the years with Adobe Photoshop, I’ve decided to post several (5 tutorials in total at the time of publishing) photoshop tutorials to share some useful tips and tricks…
Near the end of 2006 marks the start of my endeavour in blog layout / template / skin (whatever you want to call it :mrgreen: haha!). I designed my first 90%-by-myself WordPress theme called teddY-risatioNâ„¢ Green. After that I made some edits and so teddY-risatioNâ„¢ Blue is born. Being unsatisfied with the new themplate, I changed it in less than a month to get teddY-risatioNâ„¢ Alpha.
After teddY-risatioNâ„¢ Alpha, now we have teddY-risatioNâ„¢ Beta, the self-made WordPress theme I loved the most, which explains why is it sitting here unchanged (except for the header image) since April 30th 2007.
3 years down the road many things happened around me. I start to have strong feelings for and against certain issues, which are expressed through several posts. I’ve spent quite some time researching on these topic and I’m presenting the facts to you – with no fabrication and manipulation of any information. They are my starposts:
These two posts are meant to raise my readers’ awareness of these topics. Stop Smoking! is an exceptionally controversial one because one year back my personal view was pretty myopic and I actually proposed that smoking should be banned completely. This made me sound like some anti-smoking extremist. After reading Dream’s comment, I realised that as long as smokers do not deprive people who don’t smoke of clean air, I have no qualms to see them smoking.
Going Green? Not at all… | Does Carbon Offsetting Work? is inspired from two Times magazine articles – one written by Adam Smith (Lost In the Forest) and the other by Bryan Walsh (Greenhouse Airlines). The former shares his concern regarding the effectiveness of carbon offsetting in the modern world while the latter is worried of the expanding airline industry – both can potentially disasterous brew a new breed of people – frequent travellers who don’t mind paying for polluting our skies.

I’ve took literally years to figure out the correct colour combination… if you don’t believe you can look at the screenshots of my previous blog themes – they look pretty unharmonious in terms of the colours. gosh, congrats on the 3rd year! this coming november would mark Eternal Rest’s first year. although i have been in webdesigning far longer than that. approx 6-7 years ago i started out at blogger, diaryland and all those free hosted blog sites, to 4 years ago i moved on to coding premade layouts, and finally 3 years ago, making my own layouts. your lucky your dad is supportive of your blog site, and sponsoring you with the host plan. my mum thinks its a huge waste of money, when i got my first domain (sweet-embrace.net) my friend bought it for me, no one knew about it lol. but now im just happy with my current host and Eternal Rest. xp
may your site have many years to come. i have always loved your photos, so continue taking them and posting them here. ^^
